Little Rose McGinley is just seven years old when her family are evicted from their home in Donegal, victims of the clearances of 1861. Rose and her mother, Hannah, are lucky – they find a home and employment with the aristocratic Molyneux family at the Currane Lodge, County Kerry.
This is just the first step in what will be a long and eventful journey for Rose, one that will take her back to the North with the man she loves. Rose is a feisty girl and blossoms into a woman of extraordinary strength and character who confronts hardship and tragedy with steadfast courage and the determination to keep her young family together . . . against all the odds.
