The Seven Years War is over, and William Kite is now a successful ship-owner in Liverpool, happily married and gradually taking over the running of the business from his partner, Makepeace. But when deception and tragedy strike suddenly, Kite is devastated and goes back to sea.
Far from recovering his fortune, Kite becomes enmeshed with the beginning of the American Revolution, and a dirty civil war. Kite’s presence in New England kindles the enmity of the American “Patriots” and he is forced to fight for his honour, his life and his future.
