Crime & Mystery
SynopsisWhen Joseph Marshall decided to retire after forty years as President of the Aidensfield Old Gooseberry Society, his wife, Mabel, was delighted. Now he could take her to Rome, Spain or London and he might even find time to nurture some prizewinning gooseberries. He'd always been too busy running the Society to win prizes but just before his impending retirement, Joseph's health rapidly deteriorates. The hospital can do nothing for him, and so the people of Aidensfield raise funds to send him to Lourdes, hoping for a miracle cure. As show day approaches, however, the pilgrimage to Lourdes means he cannot tend his beloved berries, a dilemma because this might be his final chance to win the coveted Supreme award. Meanwhile, Claude Jeremiah Greengrass is determined to gain revenge against Joseph for an earlier humiliation and so he grows a collosal berry - but so does the constable's wife. As a crime wave involving stolen bicycles strikes the area, with the new sergeant's own valuable racing machine being among those taken, Constable Nick finds himself coping with a variety of rustic problems in Aidensfield.
