Ironside, Elizabeth

Elizabeth Ironside is the pen name of Lady Catherine Manning, wife of British diplomat Sir David Manning. Manning has a PhD in history from Oxford University; she took up writing when her husband's career took them to Poland, India, France, Russia, Israel and the United States. Her first novel, A Very Private Enterprise (1984), won the John Creasey Award for Best First Mystery. Her second novel, Death in the Garden (1995) was shortlisted for the Golden Dagger Award; the Felony & Mayhem first US edition of the novel was listed as one of the 12 Best Books of 2005 by NPR. She went on to publish three additional novels between 1996 and 2000.
