Allingham, Henry

Henry Allingham was born on 6 June 1896 in Clapton. He is the oldest man in Britain and the oldest surviving veteran of the First World War. He is the last man alive to have flown with the original Royal Naval Air Service and fought at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. He makes regular public appearances to educate today's generation about the war and has received numerous honours and awards. He passed away in July 2009, shortly after being named the world's oldest man.
