Born in Cincinnati in 1924, Berger was raised in New York City, and worked as an academic librarian and editor. He has written 16 novels, the best known being 'Little Big Man'. Set in the Wild West it was made into a motion picture that starred Dustin Hoffman. First published in 1964, 'Little Big Man' has remained in print ever since.
