Judy Astley was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, and educated at Twickenham County School for girls. After taking a degree in English, she worked at the BBC for a while and then became a dressmaker and designer for Liberty’s followed by several years as a painter and illustrator before becoming a writer. She lives in Twickenham and Cornwall with her husband and two daughters.
