Reader A-Z > Nigel Planer
Best known for his comic performances on television in The Comic Strip, as Neil in The Young Ones, and, most recently as Lou Lewis in Shine On, Harvey Moon, Nigel Planer is a man with a wide range of roles from romantic to absurd, from yuppies to rock stars, from the first pregnant man (yes, before Arnie!) to Andy Warhol. Perhaps his most famous incarnation is Nicholas Craig, the actor (actorrrr), as whom Nigel appeared on television, theatre and radio, and co-wrote the best-selling I, an Actor. Since training at LAMDA, Nigel has had leading roles in West End musicals and plays, starred in over a hundred hours of television, comedy and drama, been a stand-up comedian and founder member of London’s Comic Strip and Comedy Store, and written or co-written screenplays, TV and radio scripts, and four best-selling books. His articles and poetry have been published in several magazines and newspapers. In 1985, he won the BPI award for best comedy record with his rendering of Hole in My Shoe and as part of the spoof heavy metal band Bad News, he played rhythm guitar at the Donnington Heavy Rock Festival and the Hammersmith Odeon.

Herring on the Nile - L. C. Tyler
In an effort to rejuvenate his flagging career, novelist Ethelred Tressider embarks on a "research trip" to Egypt. No sooner has the cruise on the Nile begun, however, than events quickly unravel: an attempt is made on Ethelred's life; the boat's engine explodes, and a passenger is found murdered. As the boat drifts out of control, suspicion falls on everyone aboard - including Ethelred.
