Author A-Z > Les Savage Jr
Les Savage, Jr. was born in Alhambra, California and grew up in Los Angeles. Savage often ran into problems with book editors in the 1950s who were concerned about marriages between his protagonists and women of different races - a commonplace on the real frontier but not in much Western fiction in that decade. Savage died young, at thirty-five, from complications arising out of hereditary diabetes and elevated cholesterol. However, as a result of the censorship imposed on many of his works, only now are they being fully restored by returning to the author's original manuscripts.
