General Fiction
Synopsis
“There is nothing I would not do to safeguard Barty and Therese - after all, we are Family. They don’t realise it, but they need me. Others can come and go, extras zig-zagging in and out of their lives. Needs must. We mustn’t be threatened. If the outsiders, male or female, become serious, they must be persuaded to go. . .” Charlotte Pierce spent a solitary childhood, in large houses with empty people doing empty things. But she has two close friends: Barty, an acclaimed photographer, and Therese, who now runs an animal sanctuary. Blissfully ignorant, the two girls don't know it, but Barty and Therese are the most important people in Charlotte's life.
