Synopsis
On holiday in Amsterdam lawyer Rosa Epton is not thinking about work. But a chance sighting outside a café gives her a shock. Sitting at a table is an ex-client who should be behind bars, having recently been sentenced to five years in prison.Eddie Ruding, professional burglar, had been caught at the foot of a drainpipe, his pockets bulging with £6,000 of stolen cash. His claim that he was working for MI5 was shaky at best, but when his alleged contact there refused to come forward he was sentenced to imprisonment. So what’s he doing in Amsterdam a few weeks later?
Rosa makes discreet enquiries. They draw a blank, and she is trying to put the matter out of her mind when Eddie Ruding is found dead at the foot of the walls of Wandsworth Prison. But Rosa is not the only one on the dead man’s trail . . .
