General Fiction
Synopsis
The story of Jon Cleary's novel centres on the lonely Flying Doctor' station at Winnemincka where a young and prosperous Sydney doctor, Stephen McCabe, came to stay for what he meant to be a holiday. Back in Sydney Stephen has money, an assured future and a beautiful fiancee to sharpen his ambition. Nonetheless he is uneasily aware that his vocation is escaping him, as his father's old friend Jack Tristram realised when he came to the Sydney surgery. Winnemincka, and the characters who are living the austere but rewarding life which it imposes, present Stephen with a challenge, and a personal choice as difficult as the decisions with which a doctor of the outback is faced. You May Also Be Interested In...
