Synopsis
The new Rector of Turnham Malpas is young, vigorous, and very handsome. One by one, Peter Harris encounters his flock. There's prim Miss Hipkin, who at the age of sixty-four is finally learning how to live and fall in love, then poor Suzy Meadows, Madonna-like mother of three, who is reeling from her husband's recent suicide. In The Royal Oak, publicans Betty and Mac McDonald are having trouble with their wayward daughter Sharon, while over at the Village Store, Jimbo and Harriet Charter-Plackett are bringing a touch of Harrods to the neighbourhood. Finally, there's Sir Ralph Templeton, recently retired from the Diplomatic Service and hurrying home as fast as his aristocratic legs can carry him. As the new Rector settles in, a dark cloud seems to gather over Turnham Malpas. A spiteful prank is played on Muriel Hipkin. Then the whole village is rocked by a gruesome murder that points to a killer in its midst. Peter's pastoral role is crucial now, and yet he is wrestling with his own private hell. As he contends with his own weakness and the sadness of his childless wife Caroline, he must comfort and advise his new parishioners. You May Also Be Interested In...
