Synopsis
“When I was a little girl, the ghosts were more real to me than the people.”
Surrounded by all the outward signs of luxury, Christian Miller grew up in a world where privileges were not allowed to the children — few toys, little pocket money, and often uncongenial work, from the glittering diamonds of guests to the threadbare clothes of the children, from evening music at parties to scuttling rats, she records it all faithfully and magically.
Through the eyes and ears of a 1920s child who seems to have seen and heard everything within the massive granite walls of her home, she gives us a unique insight into what must surely have been one of the last relics of feudal life.
