Synopsis
In My Father’s House, Pauline Neville recalls her happy childhood in Kirkcudbright. Undistorted by sentimentality, she shares the excitement, sadness and above all the love that enriched her life in a Galloway manse between the wars.Her father, a witty and intellectual Irishman, was a remarkable Church of Scotland minister. His relations with his wife, children, parish and his dog Oats (a memorable character) are vividly and amusingly described. Pauline recalls his physical and moral courage, his intelligence and caring, which encouraged his children to share his enjoyment of all aspects of life.
