Synopsis
In 'Drums of Morning', Vernon Scannell recalls his childhood and early manhood, culminating in his joining the army in 1940. He explores the relationship between himself, his siblings and his sadistic and probably psychotic father, set against the vivid backdrop of Britain between the wars. What emerges is a frank, sometimes comical, but always powerful portrait of a boy with few material advantages finding his own salvation through literature, music, boxing and the grace of love.Latest Additions
