Ali Smith has been announced as this year's winner of the Baileys Prize for her novel How To Be Both. The awards ceremony was held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on the 3rd June, and was presented by broadcaster Lauren Laverne.

The chair of this year's judging panel, Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti, said the book was a “tender, brilliant and witty novel of grief, love, sexuality and shape-shifting identity”.

Smith beat a strong shortlist to the Prize, including The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters.
