Ruth Dowie won the Fay Weldon section of BBC3's End of Story Competition in 2004. Her first novel, Ruso and the Disappearing Dancing Girls, was published by Penguin in 2006 and by Bloomsbury in the US (as Medicus) in 2007, where it became an NYT best-seller. Five novels have followed: Ruso and the Demented Doctor (Terra Incognita in the US), Ruso and the Root of all Evils (Persona Non Grata in the US), Ruso and the River of Darkness (Caveat Emptor in the US), Semper Fidelis and Tabula Rasa. Ruth is married with two grown-up sons and lives in Devon.
